6 Tips to Keep Fighting and Not Give Up On Your Business
"You can't do it"
"It's time to quit"
"You've already fought enough"
These are the phrases we can hear every day, from family, close friends, and even yourself, and that can motivate you to abandon everything and not continue fighting for your dreams.
Has it ever happened to you? … Don't worry, you are not the only one.
According to reliable studies, our brain is programmed to give up easily. It is normal because we humans want to constantly experience pleasure and satisfaction, and if we do not find that quickly, we simply give up.
That is why many times we limit ourselves to fulfilling our dreams, simply because we give up early.
Look what Ralph Waldo Emerson says … “Whatever course you decide to take, there will always be someone who will tell you that you are wrong. Difficulties always arise that tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To chart a course of action and follow it to the end requires courage. "
The most challenging moments for you are to persevere in your goals. These will make you stronger in the ‘future’. Who knows whether ‘today’ is one of those priceless moments?
The crisis caused by COVID-19 has led many businesses to close their doors and many others are on the line. Understandably, sometimes we feel that we want to throw it all away, but giving up is not okay, because NOTHING WORTH IS EASY.
Think of the number of successful people who failed hundreds of times, if they had chosen to give up instead of working hard to achieve their goals, they would never have made it.
An example is Walt Disney, who was fired by the editor of a newspaper because "he lacked imagination and had no good ideas." Can you imagine? What would have happened if he had quit? We or our children would never have enjoyed so many magical moments that Disney has brought to the world.
Let’s know how we will get the best out of our fighting spirit, thereby we don't give up during this tough time. I will share 6 tips that will help you.
Remember why it started and how much you wanted it
Think about the moment when you started your project. Do you remember the joy and excitement you felt for the adventure that you had ahead of you? Surely the vision that prompted you to leave your comfort is still engraved in your heart, you just need to go back to your " why ".
If you are not sure why you started your own business, this is the perfect time to reflect and discover that purpose that led you to risk everything.
It is understood that any business has to make money, but that cannot be the only purpose that should drive you. What did you want to do with the money you were going to earn? Buying your first home? Give your children a better education? Help your parents? What was that positive change you wanted to create in the world?
Rediscovering this initial purpose is key to getting through this difficult time. After all, the "whys" are the fuel that motivates us to move forward, even when conditions are not the best.
Make a list of the reasons that led you to start your project and evaluate each one of them, and I'm sure you will find extra motivation not to give up on your dreams.
Discuss why you want to give up
It is important to discover in-depth the factors that are motivating you to give up everything, but you must analyse them specifically.
For example, when we want to quit we usually have an accumulation of factors that cloud our mind and blind us, it is as if we want to eat a large plate in one bite, however, when we eat it in small portions we realize that it is possible to finish it.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I want to resign because of the Covid-19 situation or because I don't want to experiment with new ways to promote my company?
- Am I tired of trying or do I feel like I haven't given enough yet?
- Am I still maintaining my initial dream or have I lost it along the way?
Discovering the real reasons will allow you to make profound changes that will lead to success, but you have to be honest with yourself. If you do, you will be surprised to discover that everything has a solution!
One problem at a time
Do you remember the image of your mom talking on the phone while cooking dinner with the other hand and cleaning our mess with her right foot? Although there are superheroes like her, the truth is that in business we cannot solve all problems at the same time, we must focus on one at a given time.
When our focus is not on a single task, we tend to be less productive, feel more stressed, and achieve worse results. What to do?
Solve the first one and continue
Determine what task, problem, or goal is your priority right now. What is the most important thing right now and focus only on that? Once you're done, ask yourself the same question with the next problem and move on.
Don't overthink it
Problems often paralyze us and we wait to take action until we are confident. We make and discard plans only to discover in the end that we do not advance, and we stay in the same place. It's always good to take the time to think things through, but don't get stuck in the planning stage.
Find a teaching
Persisting when everything seems to be going wrong can provide you with an opportunity to learn important lessons that can lead to success. Overcoming all those obstacles will help you understand your strengths and weaknesses, and make better decisions about how to improve your performance and be successful in the future.
Seek the support of others
There are many famous movies like "The Lone Ranger" or "Rambo" where a single person was in charge of everything, but in real life, it is not like that, much less in difficult times.
I recommend doing two things:
Seek inspiration from others
Many great movies are based on real-life stories about people who faced incredible odds and seemingly insurmountable obstacles, but refused to give up and achieved what they wanted.
I recommend watching "In Pursuit of Happiness" inspired by the true story of Chris Gardner, this film is about a single father with a 5-year-old son who goes from homelessness to being a Wall Street legend.
Seeing others refuse to give up will strengthen your determination to move on. Repeat the following: "If they didn't give up and neither did I."
Ask for help from those who are experts
In times of challenge we cannot isolate ourselves, but rather seek support from other people who can help us, not only emotionally, but also in the professional part of your business.
Today a company for its survival, must adapt to the new reality and incorporate new technologies to meet the demands of its customers. This forces us to seek solutions that perhaps we have left aside for years.

Adopt a "don't quit" mentality
"Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving."
When you're pursuing a worthwhile goal, it's almost inevitable that at some point you will think of some of these things:
- "This is more difficult than I thought"
- "Why is it taking so long?"
- "I don't feel like I'm going anywhere."
- "I can't do this, what was I thinking?"
And when you have one, or more, of these thoughts, you likely want to give up.
However, if we change our attitude, we can deal with these situations in a much better way, stay healthier, and be happier. Not only can people with a positive attitude live better, but they can also live longer too!
Our mind is powerful and "not giving up" is a way of thinking you can adopt.
Constantly repeat the following:
- I'm going to insist when the going gets tough.
- I'll find a way and do it.
- Every problem has a solution and I have the perfect ability to find it.
- Every day I get more knowledge about what works and what doesn't, which means that I become stronger and wiser.
- Setbacks are temporary.
- I will find a way to overcome this.
Having an "I won't give up" mentality will make it much easier to persist and refuse to give up until we achieve our goal.
Try differently one more time
"If you want different results, do not do the same." Albert Einstein
Refusing to give up doesn't mean you just have to keep doing the same thing over and over again. If what you are doing is currently not working, you should try a different approach.
Continue in this way until you find a method, technique, or strategy that works.
Get out a pencil and a sheet of paper and start thinking of different alternatives you can try. Then choose one of them and try it without getting discouraged, and as someone said "Don't be discouraged. Often the last key in the group is the one that opens the lock."
There is light at the end of the tunnel!
Winston Churchill once said, "Never give up on something that you can't stop thinking about for a single day."
The best way to get ahead when things get difficult is not to sit back and wait for it to happen, but to take actions that will lead to success. At first, it will be difficult, but you will be surprised to realize that if we begin to take action, little by little our emotional state will improve.
Start with yourself and then make a list of the areas in which your business needs to change, renew, or modernize to adapt to the new changes we are experiencing.
As someone said over there, "taking the first step doesn't get you where you want to go, but it gets you out of where you were" it just starts moving!
Take the time to consider each of the tips that we share in this blog as you move forward firmly with your business, remember that if it were easy everyone would do it, but I am sure that you are one of those who fight big and keep going until achieving it and as Mohammed Ali said: "Don't give up, suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion."
